Residents in Suffolk can recycle all sorts of items at Suffolk County Council's 18 Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Over the last two years the number of products that can be recycled at the centres has increased to include a number of items that Suffolk residents find difficult to recycle via their kerbside collections and local bring banks schemes.
All HWRC's now accept the following products:
Used cooking oil
Waste electrical equipment
Household and automotive batteries
Used automotive engine oil
Refrigerators and freezers
Televisions and monitors
Mobile phones
Light bulbs and low energy bulb / florescent tubes
Plastic bags and film
Plastic packaging / bottles and cartons
Wood
Cardboard
Green garden waste
Metals
Toner cartridges
Spectacles'
Glass
Currently the Suffolk HWRC's are recycling an average of 50% of 80,000 tonnes of waste that enter the gates each year.
Cllr Eddy Alcock, portfolio holder for environment and waste management said: "By increasing the number of items that can be recycled at the county council's HWRC's, we are reducing the amount of waste that is being sent to landfill.
"I would urge residents to try out their local facility, to see for themselves, the excellent service that is being provided and to learn how they can do their bit to cut down on waste being sent to landfill."
The key to using any of the Suffolk HWRC's is:
> Sort your waste before you arrive, this will save you time when you get to the centres
> Follow advice / instructions from site staff, it's for your own safety and to help everyone use the centre quickly and safely.
> Avoid busy times weekend mornings and Public Holidays.
> Check that what you are bringing to the centre can be accepted, there are limits on some items. These include items from the fabric of a building, e.g. DIY waste, and this is limited to two bags per day and waste from animals is limited to one bag per week. No Hazardous Wastes or liquids (other than oils) can be accepted at any HWRC (full details can be found at www.suffolkrecycling.org.uk or by ringing 0845 606 6067
