Free fun as The Gruffalo celebrates his 10th birthday at Great Cornard Library

There will be Gruffalo biscuits, Gruffalo balloons and Gruffalo masks at Great Cornard Library this Saturday (7 March) as local children help the Gruffalo celebrate his 10th birthday.

The Gruffalo will join children in listening to stories at 10.30am. There will be singing accompanied by Tom Veasey on guitar and children will be able to make their own Gruffalo mask to take home along with a Gruffalo balloon.

Great Cornard Library will also have lots of copies of the anniversary edition of The Gruffalo for children to borrow. Friday, 6 March sees the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of the book, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

This book was recently voted by Suffolk users as the best book for 3-5 year olds to share with their parents/carers. Dominic Kingston representing Macmillan publishers will join the Gruffalo on Saturday to receive the "Books for Sharing" award on behalf of the author and illustrator. The award is a specially commissioned piece of pottery from a local ceramic artist, Hannah Berridge: two bowls will be presented for passing on to both Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
