Suffolk on target to be the greenest county

Suffolk County Council is strongly committed to Creating the Greenest County and has made considerable steps towards improving its environmental performance over the past year.

In October 2007 the county council adopted its first Environment Action Plan, which was led by a cross-party panel looking at ways to develop and improve the authority's environmental performance.

This week, the county council published the monitoring report to see how we have progressed against the action's targets. Considerable progress has been made in many areas but of particular note is the completion of the OrbisEnergy centre in Lowestoft which is occupied by companies working in the offshore renewable energy sector and the ongoing success of replacing old oil boilers with wood fuelled alternatives in council buildings.

Councillor Eddy Alcock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Waste Management said: "I am very pleased with the progress that we have made over the last year in improving our environmental performance. Of course we always strive to do better and we will continue to develop environmental improvements across the county. I think this report reflects our commitment to make Suffolk the Greenest County and I hope everyone living and working in the county will support us in this ambition and do their bit to improve our environment".
