Rogue trader warning – Halesworth and Suffolk-wide
Police are warning residents in Halesworth and across Suffolk to be on the alert after receiving reports of potential rogue traders operating in the area. Police have received two reports in the past two days of suspicious callers to addresses in Halesworth. In one of the incidents, on Monday afternoon, 20 April, a householder was approached and told that work needed doing on his roof. When informed that work had only recently been done on the roof the trader left. The caller is described as in his mid 30s to early 40s, around 6ft tall and of heavy build. In the other incident, also on Monday afternoon, two men visited an address and persuaded the occupant into letting them do some gardening work. After just a few minutes work they demanded he hand over a large sum of cash. The occupant refused to pay and the men they knocked over bins outside the address before leaving.
Police are urging all residents to be alert when dealing with any doorstep callers. Never agree to have any work done if you are not happy or feel pressurised. If you think you need any gardening or work on your house you should get several quotes from legitimate companies before agreeing to have any work done. Do not let anyone into your home without proper identification and if in any doubt please call officers immediately using 999.
